Qantas Airlines

Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services or Qantas is Australia’s national airline based in the city of Sydney, the world’s major multicultural city. Its main centre is the Sydney Airport or the Kingsford Smith International Airport, the oldest airport in the world.

Qantas, or The Flying Kangaroo, is known as the largest and the second oldest operating airline in the world. It was founded on November 16, 1920 in the town of Winton in Queensland by Fergus McMaster, Hudson Fysh and Paul McGuiness. The Kangaroo logo of Qantas was introduced in 1944 and went through four major versions; Hans Hulsbosch designed the last version.

The first aircraft was Avro 504K, which was bought for 1425 pounds. This aircraft had a speed of 105 kilometres per hour and accommodated of only three persons. Alexander Kennedy, an outback pioneer, was the first man to ride in this aircraft. The airline is operated through air mail services and funded by the government of Australia.

In the year 2008, Qantas was voted as the world’s third top airline by Skytrax, a consultancy of the United Kingdom, which conducts commercial airline surveys. Moreover, Qantas received the honours for Best Regional Airline Australasia, Best Economy Class Onboard Catering, Best Airline Australasia, and Best First Class Lounge. Currently, Qantas operates numerous important international flights in certain airports like Brisbane, Perth, Los Angeles International, Singapore Changi, and London Heathrow airport. It is one of the world’s most profitable airlines.
