Thai Airways International
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited was established in 1957 and is the official air carrier of Thailand. It commenced its operations on May 1, 1960. Its main headquarters is at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. Its mother company, Thai Ministry of Finance, is connected with Star Alliance.
Thai Airways International is presently managed by Mr. Apinan Sumanaseni (President), and Mr. Chalit Pookpasuk (Chairman). The airline also carries out long, non-stop air travel like its Bangkok to New York and Bangkok to Los Angeles service using the new A340-500 aircraft. It offers four varieties of services, namely, the Royal First Class, the Royal Silk (Business) Class, the Premium Economy Class, and the Royal Orchid Plus category. Each of these varieties has its corresponding seat accommodation, meal, and other amenities. As of November 2007, they were in service for as much as 75 airports around the world.
In 2006, Thai Airways International was awarded by Skytrax as the 'Worlds Best Cabin Staff and The Best Airline in the World.’ It was also ranked second in the 'Airline of the Year' category in 2007. The airline is also one of the few that has a variation in outfit policy. International female flight personnel are compelled to change from their company’s purple outfits into their traditional Thai clothes. They do this before the general embarkation of passengers. Thai Airways are also compelled to change back to their former attire before disembarkation.
Just recently, Thai Airways announced that they’re trying to sell four Airbus A340-500 aircrafts, but this was hindered due to the present economic distress around the globe.
