Tips for Treating Jetlag
Jet lag is defined as a physiological condition which can be experienced during long distance flights from west to east or east to west. Symptoms such as appetite loss, headaches, sleeping disorders and nausea are signs of jetlag. Here are a few tips on how to treat it.
Tip 1: If you arrive at the destination at daytime, it is obvious that you need to reset your watch to the local time so that you will not be confused. This will of cause decrease your stress and discomfort. Eat foods rich in protein, such as eggs for breakfast. This will help you stay awake and alert.
Tip 2: When you arrive, staying in a sunny place or spending the whole day in sunlight may help you reset your body clock. Perform some light exercises to keep your body moving.
Tip 3: If you’re really tired and you really need to sleep, take a short nap. Make sure that you do this before 2pm and that you don’t nap for more than an hour. Stay awake until 8 or 9 pm, so that you don’t end up waking late the following morning.
Tip 4: If you arrive during the night, eat foods that are rich in carbohydrates, like pasta, to make you drowsy. Drinking a cup of chamomile tea may help you sleep.
Tip 5: Take between 2mg and 5mg of melatonin, depending on your weight. The heavier you are, the more you need to take. This helps reduce jet lag and speed up your body adjustment.
